Can I Create a Logo From a Font?

/Licensing /Can I Create a Logo From a Font?

This is one of the most common questions regarding font use. Under the YWFT Desktop License, the short answer is, “yes.” However, not all foundries choose to use the YWFT License. If you’re considering using a particular font, check to see whether or not the foundry has chosen to use their own license. (You will see a button on the product page for the font that reads “View Third-Party License.”)

After you’ve determined that the foundry does not specifically prohibit such use, the other important factor is whether or not your logo design includes artistic features that exist separately and independently of the letters. (If it does, then you’re likely good.)

To be safe, once your design is complete, feel free to contact us and ask. We’re glad to run it by the foundry for you.
